Website development cost in India in 2026

A business website in India in 2026 starts at about ₹7,999 for a single landing page and reaches ₹1,50,000 or more for a custom catalogue or store. Published agency bands put a small business site at ₹20,000 to ₹60,000 and a B2B site at ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000. Both numbers are real. They describe different products being sold under the same word.

This guide shows the published bands, explains why quotes for identical scope differ by five times, lists what you pay every year rather than once, and ends with the five questions that separate an honest quote from an expensive one. If you are only pricing a smaller site, our small business website packages show what sits at the budget end of these bands.

What a website costs in India in 2026

Indian agencies publish their bands openly. These are the ranges, not averages:

Source Scope Published band
Nurotech Small business site ₹20,000 to ₹60,000
Nurotech B2B service site ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000
SAM Web Studio Three tiers, starter to advanced ₹25,000 to ₹5,00,000
ColorWhistle Medium-complexity manufacturing site ₹1,80,000 to ₹3,80,000
NKV DEV WORKS Our own packages ₹7,999 to ₹34,999

The spread between our floor and the agency bands is not a discount story. A ₹7,999 landing page and a ₹1,50,000 catalogue site are different builds: one page versus dozens, static files versus a database, your content versus content written for you.

Why two quotes for the same website differ five-fold

Ask three agencies to quote a five-page business site and you will get ₹15,000, ₹45,000, and ₹1,20,000. The difference is rarely hourly rate. It is what “five pages” means.

  • A purchased theme with your logo dropped in, where the layout, spacing, and mobile behaviour were designed for someone else’s business. It works until you need a page that the theme does not have.
  • A tier ladder with no shared definition, because “Starter”, “Standard”, and “Professional” mean different things at every agency, so the label tells you nothing about effort.
  • A written scope, where pages, sections, content, forms, integrations, and revision rounds are listed before work starts. This is the only version where two quotes can be compared.

Nurotech documented a Delhi manufacturer holding a ₹2,80,000 quote in which roughly 60% of the “custom design” work was an unchanged commercial theme retailing for about ₹3,000. The same scope, rebuilt against a written specification, came in at ₹1,40,000. The client was not overcharged per hour. They were sold a template at a bespoke price.

That is the actual cost driver: whether someone is designing your pages or reselling someone else’s.

Freelancer, agency, or website builder

Need a website built properly?

Fast, modern, fully owned — from ₹7,999, delivered in 1–2 weeks.

Chat on WhatsAppSee pricing
Option What you get Where it breaks
Website builder (Wix, Squarespace, Shopify) Fast launch, no developer needed, monthly fee You rent the site; leaving means rebuilding; speed and markup are not yours to fix
Freelancer Direct communication, lower overhead, one person’s skill set Availability during holidays, bus-factor of one, handover discipline varies
Agency Design, copy, development, and QA in one scope Overhead in the price, and you may be assigned to a junior after the sales call

None of these is wrong. A shop that needs a five-page site next week should not hire an agency. A manufacturer publishing 400 product specs should not hire a solo freelancer who has never built a catalogue. Match the option to the scope, not to the price.

Whoever you pick, the site should be yours at the end: domain in your name, repository handed over, hosting under your account. If any of those stay with the vendor, you are renting.

What you pay every year

A website has a one-time build cost and a yearly running cost. Ask for both before you sign.

  • The domain renews yearly, in your name. We bill it at cost.
  • Hosting a static site on Cloudflare Pages costs nothing at normal traffic; a database-backed site adds a monthly bill.
  • SSL is free on Cloudflare and Let’s Encrypt. Anyone charging you separately for a basic certificate is padding the invoice.
  • Maintenance covers updates, backups, and small content changes. Our care plan is ₹1,999 per month; many clients instead pay per change.
  • An SEO retainer is optional, and pointless before the site has content worth ranking. Our ongoing SEO runs ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 per month.

Over three years, a ₹7,999 site with our ₹1,999 monthly care plan costs about ₹80,000. The same care applies to a ₹1,50,000 build, so compare total spend over the period you expect to keep the site, not the launch invoice alone.

What the price should include

Whether you pay ₹8,000 or ₹80,000, these should be in the scope, in writing:

  1. A mobile-first layout, because most Indian traffic is a phone on mobile data, not office wifi.
  2. Code ownership, with the repository and hosting handed to you at launch.
  3. Page titles, meta descriptions, a sitemap and schema, which is the minimum Google needs to understand the site.
  4. Analytics and Search Console installed and verified, not “available on request”.
  5. A working enquiry route, so a form plus WhatsApp, tested end to end.
  6. A written page list, so “five pages” cannot become four plus a contact form.

How to compare two quotes

Ask each vendor the same five questions and write the answers down:

  1. Which pages and sections are included, exactly?
  2. Who writes the content: you, me, or nobody?
  3. Do I get the source code and the domain at launch?
  4. What happens in month 13, and what does it cost?
  5. Can I see a live site you built that loads in under two seconds on a phone?

A quote that cannot answer these is a price, not a scope. The types of websites guide helps you name what you are buying before you ask for numbers.
