There are twelve types of websites a business can build in 2026, and they differ by what the visitor is meant to do: read, enquire, buy, search a catalogue, log in, or come back. The type you pick decides your page structure, your budget, and how easily Google can rank you. Pick it wrong and you pay twice, once to build and once to rebuild.

This guide covers each type in plain English, what it costs to start, and which one fits your business. Prices are our own package floors, not market averages, so you can check them against our pricing page.

1. Brochure or business website

The classic five-page site: Home, About, Services, Contact. Its job is credibility. A stranger checks that you are real, understands what you do, and finds a phone number in under a minute.

Best for clinics, consultants, contractors, and local businesses that sell in person or over the phone. Most Indian small businesses start here, and most of them under-build it: a template with no page titles, no enquiry form, and no reason to trust the business.

Starting point: ₹8,999 for up to four pages with an enquiry form and basic SEO. See KTD Doors, a timber business in Bengaluru running since 1988, for the shape of it.

2. Marketing website

Same structure as a brochure site, different intent. A marketing website is built around one action per page: request a quote or book a call. It carries landing pages, case studies, testimonials, and a visible price or offer.

Best for businesses spending money on ads, referrals, or outbound sales where the website has to close the gap before a sales call.

Starting point: ₹19,999 for up to six pages. The difference from a brochure site is not page count, it is the work of writing the offer and removing every competing link. Our guide to what a marketing website does covers that in detail.

3. Landing page

Need a website built properly?

Fast, modern, fully owned — from ₹7,999, delivered in 1–2 weeks.

Chat on WhatsAppSee pricing

One page, one goal, no navigation. Used for a campaign, a product launch, an exhibition, or paid traffic.

Best for anyone running ads: sending paid clicks to a homepage is the most common way small businesses waste a budget. A landing page matches the ad, states one offer, and asks for one thing.

Starting point: ₹7,999 for a single conversion-focused page. Our landing page development service covers the ad-matched structure.

4. Digital catalogue website

A searchable product catalogue with no checkout. Buyers search, filter by specification, and enquire on WhatsApp in one tap. It replaces the PDF brochure that never gets opened.

Best for manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and exporters whose entire sales conversation is “send me your catalogue”.

Starting point: ₹8,999, scoped by SKU count. Samsruthi Equip runs a 27-product catalogue where every item has its own page, specification, and enquiry button. That is the same build our digital catalogue service describes.

5. eCommerce store

A website that takes payment. Product pages, variants, cart, checkout, shipping rules, returns, and a payment gateway, usually Razorpay or UPI in India.

Best for retailers and D2C brands with repeatable products, a shipping process, and someone who can answer customer questions daily. If you sell made-to-order or high-value items, a catalogue site plus WhatsApp often converts better than a cart nobody completes.

Starting point: quoted per project, because gateway, shipping, and inventory decisions change the work. See eCommerce website development.

6. Industrial or manufacturer website

Built for engineers and procurement teams, not shoppers. Spec sheets, tolerances, materials, certifications, capacity, and a request-for-quote form that accepts a drawing.

Best for fabrication, machining, and component manufacturers. The buyer verifies you alone, before contacting anyone, so the site has to answer technical questions without a sales call.

Starting point: ₹19,999, scoped by product families. Our industrial websites service and the industrial website design guide cover what buyers actually check. For the business case, see why fabrication and engineering companies need a website and how a website improves a fabrication business.

7. Exhibition or event website

A time-bound site tied to a trade show or conference: exhibitor list, floor plan, schedules, and a QR code that opens a mobile catalogue from a stall.

Best for exhibitors at BIEC and similar venues, and for organisers who need one page attendees can bookmark. It earns its cost in the fortnight around the event, then keeps working as a follow-up link.

Starting point: ₹7,999 for an exhibitor page with a QR-linked catalogue. See exhibition websites, plus what an exhibitor website needs to do for a trade show and the HBLF Show 2026 exhibitor guide.

8. Real estate project website

A site for one project or one builder: floor plans, configurations, carpet area, approvals, payment schedule, location, and a site-visit form.

Best for builders, developers, and property dealers. Buyers forward these pages to family on WhatsApp before they call, so every page has to survive being screenshotted and forwarded.

Starting point: ₹8,999 for a project page; larger townships are quoted per project. Read why real estate businesses need a website, what a builder project website needs and the real estate website cost breakdown.

9. Portfolio or personal website

Work first, words second. For designers, photographers, architects and tailors whose product is the work itself.

Best for anyone whose Instagram is doing the selling but not the closing. A portfolio gives you a link you control, work grouped by project, and an enquiry route that does not depend on an algorithm.

Starting point: ₹8,999. SPAK Interior Furniture Works is a good example of services, completed projects, team, and reviews on one site. If your work is made-to-measure, the guide to websites for fashion designers and tailors covers the pages that sell bespoke work.

10. Blog or content website

Articles and guides published on a schedule. Content sites earn traffic from search and convert it slowly through useful answers, not sales pages.

Best for businesses with repeat questions and a long sales cycle. It is also the cheapest way to stay visible: every answered question becomes a page Google can rank, which is exactly what a knowledge hub is for.

Starting point: ₹19,999 for a site with blog structure and CMS editing. This site runs on the same setup.

11. Web application

A website that is really software: dashboards, booking systems, admin panels, reporting tools, IoT device consoles. Visitors log in and do work.

Best for businesses that manage data, bookings, or operations, not for businesses that mainly publish information. A web app is the most expensive type and only worth it when the logic is the product.

Starting point: quoted per project. See web app development.

12. Membership or community portal

Gated content with accounts: courses, directories, alumni networks, associations, subscription resources.

Best for trainers, communities, and organisations that need members to return and see different things. It is a marketing site and a web app in one build, so scope it before you promise a launch date.

Starting point: quoted per project, on the same web app foundation.

Which type of website does your business need?

Ask three questions:

  1. What should a visitor do first? Call or enquire → brochure or marketing site. Buy → eCommerce. Search a range → digital catalogue. Log in → web app or portal.
  2. How often will it change? If prices or products change weekly, pick a site you can edit without a developer. If it is fixed, a static build is cheaper and faster.
  3. Who owns it after launch? Whatever the type, insist on source-code ownership. A platform subscription rents you the site; it does not sell you one.

Which type ranks best on Google?

None of them ranks better by type. What ranks is one page answering one query completely, with a clear title, fast loading, and internal links that connect related pages. A five-page brochure site can outrank a fifty-page catalogue if each page is specific and the site is fast.

That is why we build static sites: static pages beat dynamic ones on speed, and speed is a ranking and conversion factor at the same time.

What do the different types cost?

These are package floors from our pricing page, not estimates of what an agency will charge you. Scope decides the final quote: pages, products, integrations, content. We price it in writing before starting.

For a fuller breakdown of what drives the number, read how much a website costs in India and the Bangalore cost guide.

Start with the type that matches how you sell

If you sell on the phone, you need a brochure or marketing site. If buyers ask for a catalogue, you need a digital catalogue. If you take payments, you need a store. Everything else is decoration until that first decision is made.

Not sure which one fits? Tell us how you sell and we will name the type, the page count, and the starting price before you commit to anything. You can also see our services or the work we have shipped.
